"This work was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 81273192), the National S & T Major Program (2012ZX10004-022), and the Senior Personnel Grant in Public Health of Shanghai (GWH102012507). Thanks to Dr Robert Bergquist, Dr. Sen-Hai Yu and Ms Certain Edith for critical reviewing the manuscript. Thanks to Dr. Delia Grace for agreement of using her map in the manuscript. Developed over three years with the help of a “Think Tank” of 130 experts convened by TDR, the Global Report identified research-related actions that policy-makers, donors and researchers should focus on if the public health challenges of IDPs are to be met []. The report detailed the drivers of infectious diseases in poor populations and highlighted how advances in science and technology could be used to meet the challenges of controlling these diseases []. The authors of the Global Report recommended a “One Health - One World” approach to set the stage for a new strategic direction for research on infectious diseases pronouncing that “the need for intersectoral collaboration is now urgent. Funding priority should be given to research that adopts inter-disciplinary approaches; encourages collaboration between government ministries and agencies; and better incorporates ecology into disciplines – including public health, medicine, social sciences, veterinary sciences and agriculture.”"
