"This prospective, randomized, single-blind study was carried out in the department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Kanuni Training and Research Hospital. The study was carried out after receiving approval from the local ethics committee (Registry Url: 2015/18 Identifier: Trabzon Kanuni Training and Research Hospital Clinical Research Ethics Committee) and informed parental consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The study was planned for 250 patients who underwent UGE for diagnostic purposes. The clinical trial was registered before patient enrollment and patient consent was written. All the patients were American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I or II . Patients with respiratory tract infections, glaucoma, psychosis, porphyria, hypertension, metabolic or neurologic diseases, increased intracranial pressure and intracranial mass and patients known to be allergic to the drugs used were excluded from the study. Patients undergoing therapeutic or urgent endoscopy were not included in this study. This study was registered on 7 April 2016 at https//:clinicaltrials.gov as NCT02732132."
