"The study was registered with Clinical Trials (clinicaltrials.gov, identifier: NCT03817541), and approval was granted by the South‐East Norway regional ethics committee (helseforskning.etikkom.no, ref: 2017/2401). Written informed consent was obtained from adult patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic surgery, either cholecystectomy or bariatric surgery; the latter including either gastric bypass, mini gastric bypass or gastric sleeve. Patients of both sexes, aged 18–60 years and body mass index (BMI) >20 kg/m2 were eligible for inclusion."
