"This was a randomised, active‐controlled, multicentre, clinical trial conducted in Denmark at Randers Regional Hospital and The Hospital of Southern Jutland. Ethical approval was secured from the regional committees on health research ethics in both Region of Southern Denmark and Central Denmark Region (identifier 1‐10‐72‐338‐16). Both hospitals are regional hospitals with surgical competences covering most types of large‐ and small bowel surgery and all kinds of orthopaedic surgery except spinal surgery. We obtained written, informed consent from all participants or their legal surrogates. The protocol was registered at Clinicaltrials.org (identifier NCT03501927). Protocol details has been published previously and we refer to this for protocol details."
