"The study was performed among participants of the Esteban survey, a French cross-sectional study conducted between April 2014 and March 2016. The survey design was a complex three-stage stratified random sample. The first stage was a random selection of communes (primary units), the second stage was a random selection of households (secondary units) by telephone sampling and the third stage was a random selection of a single individual from the household. Details on the conduct of the survey are available in the previously published protocol study. Recruitment took place among non-institutionalized adults aged 18–74 years living in France. This survey was carried out in three main stages: (1) face-to-face interviews and self-administrated questionnaires, (2) a food consumption survey and (3) a clinical examination. Participant data were linked to the French National Health Data System (SNDS, Système National des Données de Santé) to identify the participants’ pharmaceutical consumption in the year preceding the clinical examination. The Esteban study was registered with the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (No.2012-A00456-34) and was approved by the Ethical Committee (CPP) and French Data Protection Authority (CNIL). All participants provided written consent."
