"This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki (as revised in 2013) and received approval from the institutional review board (IRB) of University of California, San Diego, with the registration number of 172121. Written informed consents were obtained from all individual participants. A total of seven patients with MS (mean age: 53.7±8.7 years, two males, five females) and eight healthy volunteers (mean age: 38±14 years, four males, four females) were recruited and underwent MRI scans. The inclusion criteria for MS patients required a documented MS diagnosis, age above 18 years, and exclusion of concurrent malignancy or other serious conditions such as stroke. Healthy volunteer inclusion criteria were being in good health and over 18 years of age. Subjects with any contraindications for MRI were excluded from participating in the study. Ethical Statement: The authors are accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
