"The present study belonged to the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study, an ongoing project launched in 2008 and registered on the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1800018895). Briefly speaking, community-dwelling participants aged ≥ 50 years were recruited from various areas of west China at baseline (in 2018) based on pre-established eligibility and exclusion criteria, and they were followed up annually either through on-site visits (in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023) or by telephone (in 2020). Questionnaire survey, physical examinations and laboratory examinations were conducted for the on-site follow-ups.
